The Training Division is dedicated to providing the highest quality training and professional development opportunities for members of the Acworth Police Department. From new-hire onboarding and field training to advanced certifications and leadership development, the division plays a critical role in officer readiness, safety, and professionalism.
The division oversees all aspects of required and specialized training, including firearms instruction, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, annual in-service courses, and leadership development programs. It also ensures departmental compliance with Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements and accreditation standards, helping the agency remain aligned with evolving best practices in policing.
The Training Division is led by Lieutenant Jason Larocque, who oversees a training staff that includes a full-time Training Sergeant, a part-time Training Officer, the Accreditation Manager, and the Outreach Sergeant. Under his leadership, the division has expanded its capacity to support both sworn and civilian staff while maintaining high standards of accountability and safety.
Lieutenant Larocque has dedicated over 15 years of service to the Acworth Police Department and has held a variety of key roles throughout his career. His experience includes serving as a K-9 Officer, Patrol Sergeant, and in both Special Operations and Training assignments.
Responsibilities
- Coordinating new officer onboarding and Field Training Officer (FTO) programs
- Conducting firearms, Taser, and active shooter training
- Managing annual POST-mandated training hours for all sworn personnel
- Overseeing specialized instruction in crisis intervention, community policing, and officer wellness
- Ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and training documentation requirements
- Supporting leadership development and succession planning initiatives
