Lieutenant Russell Mines is our Special Operations Unit Commander. Lieutenant Mines has over twelve years of service as a certified police officer, with eleven of those served here in the City of Acworth.

Lieutenant Mines earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from The University of Georgia and a Masters of Public Administration through Columbus State University’s Command College.

The Special Operations Unit was formed in 2012 to combine all specialized units within the department. The mission of the Special Operations Unit is to support Uniform Patrol and the Criminal Investigations Unit. The Unit is comprised of the following divisions: K-9, Parks Patrol Officers, and Narcotics Investigations. All law enforcement officers in our Special Operations Unit receive specific training for their areas of expertise in order to better serve our community.
